about

Found Heads Vol 1. features master percussionist Greg Sheehan, who Perrin recorded and improvised alongside in a marathon day-long session. Greg played on tambourine, gong, drums and various percussion items laying in Perrin's Kensington studio in November 2018 and Perrin has added in electronics and experimental processing of Greg's ecstatic and trance inducing performances.

These recordings have sat dormant since then.
Under Perrin's newly established Found Heads series the timing was right to share with the world.

Perrin: "I have been listening to Greg play since I was about 13, 14 years old. My parents used to take me to some of his shows. I was just there to listen and at this point in my life. I hadn’t ever thought the possibility of ever playing drums or music till the age of 17.
I continued to go to shows that he would be playing in many different ensembles.
Fast forward to 2018 and I have learnt so much from Greg, he is always in the back of my mind. When we finally connected at my studio we just jammed and got to know each other through just letting go and playing. Every so often we would stop for some water and Greg would impart with stories and wisdom.

My original plan was to get Greg playing in a nightclub.
If you have ever heard him live you could close your eyes and it would seem that he has a whole band or a least a full kit. Open your eyes and he would be holding a tamb.

It was a basic recording set up, M88 film induction mic, Fostex reverb with a cracked up harmonica mic and a SM57 mic in room somewhere…
Once Greg left I jumped in and started chopping together some ideas.
Over a couple of months just did little tweaks and add some other synth element to give it a fusion.

I hope this record and Greg’s playing resonates with you as a listener, may it open new doors as it has continued to do so for me."

Greg Sheehan had this to say: "Over a period of a couple of years quite a few musicians had talked excitedly to me about Perrin Moss and his unique drumming style. I finally got to see him play at Falls Festival in Tasmania with Hiatus Kaiyote. On seeing the band i felt they were greatest live act that i'd EVER seen from Australia. I was introduced to Perrin and to my surprise and delight he was familiar with my Rhythm Diamonds system, so l felt an immediate  musical connection.
Fast-forward two years and l was invited to play and record with Perrin in Melbourne. In his home studio, we pressed record and the ideas flowed easily from our hands. It seemed that everything we played together worked, no rehearsals, just picking an instrument, a time-signature and into the groove we went. I was impressed by his unique recording methods as well which included effecting the sounds as we played live into the mics. Great to get this session out into the world!"
